I’m Starting a Newsletter and Here’s Why
Why bloggers and photographers should start an email newsletter
The best time to start a newsletter was 18 months ago (when I first moved to the US from Australia).
The second best time is now.
Let me introduce myself.
Hey, I’m Janice 👋
I'm an avid traveller, points and miles opmitiser, photographer and creator behind the Travelling Lens. It’s a travel and photography blog that I started back in 2016 when I got my first Fujifilm camera.
My hometown is sunny Perth, Australia.
Right now, I'm living the expat life in Texas, USA, determined to make the most of my time abroad exploring the Americas (and beyond).
Photographs are a powerful tool to trigger our memories and tell the story of a place, culture or experience.
I believe in intentionally creating experiences and travel memories with people you care about and then documenting our personal travels with photographs is the best way to create joy to our lives.
So I want to help you say yes to travel experiences and no to regrets through this twice-a-month newsletter sent directly to your inbox.
But why start a newsletter?
In 2016, I started the Travelling Lens website and blog.
It was the heyday of travel blogging, nomadic living and generating an income from blogging online.
I started it as a passion project, a creative outlet for my photography and writing. And to this day, it remains largely as that.
But in 2025, the blogging world has completely changed.
During my 2024 annual review I decided I’ve procrastinated enough.
That 2025 is the year I’ll start a travel and photography newsletter that complements Travelling Lens blog.
If you’re curious, you can deep dive into my thoughts around why I think bloggers and photographers should start a newsletter.
TL;DR:
I think newsletters are an amazing way to share stories, educate, connect with readers on a deeper level and build a community of like-minded people.
What you’ll get by becoming an Insider?
I believe creating memorable experiences is a smart use of your time and money.
So here’s what I’ll be sharing in these twice-a-month Travelling Lens Insider newsletters:
Travel hacks and tips
Trip recaps, stories and destination guides.
Photography tips, how-to’s and resources to take better travel photos.
Reviews on all things travel from personal experiences—flights, hotels, lounges, activities.
The goal is to help expat couples and families like you experience more travel, take better photos and capture this special time abroad.
Thanks so much again for being here, I’ll see you at the next one
Just one final thing, I would love to hear what’s something that’s stopping you from travelling more. Send a note to hello@travellinglens.co
Janice.
